Like most bands, Space Raft is the product of a score for a shelved low-budget horror movie, an insomnia-induced list of puns and members from some of the state’s renowned rock acts joining forces

This always stings: The Championship and Moon Curse lost some pretty nice equipment last night when their practice space was broken into. In a post on their Facebook page this afternoon, The Championship asked friends to keep an eye out for the following black-market gear: Fender Jazz Deluxe – American made5-screw star bolted neckSunburstActive pickupsHi-Mid-Lo tone controlsSerial Numbered - ???...

Compiling an annual list of the most noteworthy Milwaukee albums is always one of the most difficult assignments of the year, but this year it was easy in some respects. On one hand, there’s no way to do justice to the breadth

“Winter is on its way,” Joe Crockett cautions on The Championship’s new album, in a rested baritone that makes him sound like he himself has just woken from a deep hibernation. In some ways, he has. High Feather...

Summerfest launches an alternative music festival, but is it here to stay?

By the end, RiverSplash was on life support. Two Milwaukee...

This Week in Milwaukee

Thursday, Feb. 5, The Championship @ The Mitchell Park Domes, 6 p.m. Though the band mostly plays smoky corner bars, mournful Americana songs about long drives and long nights deserve to be heard outdoors. Tonight’s unusual gig, however, where the group plays as part of the Mitchell Park Domes'...

Tonight @ the Cactus Club - 10 p.m.

The Championship and Father Phoenix are two of the more popular offerings from Milwaukee’s music scene, but aside from that, they don’t have too much in common. The Championship specialize in mellow, reflective indie-Americana, while Father Phoenix’s raging post-hardcore seldom finds the time to catch its breath, but tonight this odd couple splits an...
