It took me literal weeks to get out of baseball mode and into football mode. Now, before I could blink, it's time to think college hockey and college hoops. We were at Saturday night's UW men's hockey game and I've got lots to share about that, so that's coming up. In the meantime, some quick hits on Marquette basketball and, once I do my research, some more in-depth stuff to come... Midn...

In the short term, the summertime gas tax holiday advocated by Republican John McCain and Democrat Hillary Clinton could save consumers a little money. But it could also have huge consequences for the safety of our roads, as the money from the gas tax helps pay for the infrastructure of our roadways.

Jay-Z had it easy. He faced few restrictions in his quest for money and stardom. Unapologetically driven by material desires and founded on a platform of social Darwinism, Jay-Z’s ascent to mogul-hood represents capitalism in its purest form. Like most rappers, Talib Kweli wants what Jay-Z has—money, esteem, an audience—but in his pursuit of these goals he’s been held to a much stricter standard than Jay-Z. Long ago labeled a conscious rapper by his fans, Kweli is expected to be above the perceived vanity of mainstream rap. While rappers like Jay-Z can play anything-goes, Tammany Hall politics, Kweli must adhere to restrictive campaign finance regulations or risk alienating his idealistic fans.

The best part of this MU team is knowing that when one of the big name guys has an off night, the rest of the team has the ability to pick up the slack. We saw that throughout the season when Dominic James struggled/was injured and we saw it during this game when Wesley Matthews struggled from the field going just 2 of 10.Of course, he also proved that being cold from the floor didn't mean he was ...

I feel like I'm pretty happy with a 6 seed. We did lose 9 games. I think our tournament run, the two wins over eventual #4 seed Notre Dame and the win over #3 seed Wisconsin were huge marks on our tournament resume. When I saw Notre Dame's seed, I was frankly afraid that meant an 8 or 9 seed for MU. The 5 seed is like the kiss of death in this tournament recently, so I'll take the 6 seed matchup a...

Three Wisconsin college papers, including the Marquette Tribune, are under attack from an anti-abortion group upset that their ad was denied. The ad is described by the La Crosse Tribune as this: The ad, showing a college-age male and female, reads “Be good to yourself over spring break. Make smart choices the night before ... that way you won’t have any emergencies to deal with the morning ...

I'm very nearly on the edge of just full-on forgetting about Marquette for the season. I have tickets to Friday night's game against Pitt and I think that may be my do-or-die moment. This team could not be more frustrating to watch. They show flashes of brilliance, which makes the all-the-more-frequent flashes of disaster that much more hard to take. The only spark of life Marquette showed Saturda...
