After last night's play, today's news seems inevitable, but word is that Mat Gamel tore his ACL trying not to run into the wall while catching a foul ball Tuesday night. Gamel will need surgery and will likely miss the rest of the season. Gamel had finally gotten his chance to become the starting first baseman and just a month into the season, his chance is over. Frustration probably doesn't begin...

Chris Narveson confirmed today that the tear in his rotator cuff that was announced last week will need surgery to repair and he will miss the rest of the 2012 season. The arthroscopic surgery was confirmed as necessary by a specialist - the tear is apparently under the surface. The recovery time is 6-9 months. Ron Roenicke says the likely hole-filler will be Marco Estrada, who did a spectacular j...

This is the advertising MLB has been sending out reminding fans to vote for the All-Star Game. (Yes, we ARE less than 20 games into the season, but that doesn't seem to matter when it comes to popularity contests.) Your reigning NL MVP and one of last year's most popular vote-getter, however, is conspicuously absent from this material. You'll notice that squeaky-clean Matt Kemp, whom many wanted ...

The crowd was weirdly subdued today when Ryan Braun was awarded his MVP trophy by former-Brewers and two-time MVP winner Robin Yount. Not only did I expect the kind of loud cheers that accompanied Braun during Opening Day, but I assumed there would be a long, loud M! V! P! chant. Neither of those things happened. The crowd was rather comotose throughout the game, so their lack of reaction for Brau...

Do you remember how bad the left side of the infield was defensively last season? Heck, even the Brewers admit it was awful. The in-game Gameday magazine that's handed out in each homestand had a feature on Alex Gonzalez and the opening paragraph read like a giant "F U!" to Yuniesky Betancourt. Mentions of a lack of defense and a need for an upgrade are obvious allusions to the black hole of defen...

After an extremely disappointing four-game sweep at the hands of the Atlanta Braves, its been nice to see the Brewers show some life. The two wins put Milwaukee firmly back on track and in second place in the NL Central. Now its certainly too early to be scoreboard watching, but you never want to see your team fall into a hole. They haven't been scoring many runs (their run differential is -12) bu...

Sure, it wasn't great that the Brewers lost their opening series to the team that ended their 2011 season. But a year ago they began with three losses in Cincinnati and ended two wins from the World Series. No, it was another Brewers-related topic that got the Observers going. Frank: A pair of six-run losses to the Cardinals, but also a six-run win and great pitching by Zack Greinke...

I'm a few days late on this one, but this AP article published on ESPN.com has had me giggling for a few days. Every year we deal with Brewers baseball taking place on Good Friday and Brewers fans looking for dispensation from the Catholic church to eat meat on that day. As a non religious person, this whole thing is beyond my comprehension, but apparently the whole Opening Day/Good Friday thing w...

The Brewers signed C Jonathan Lucroy to a five-year, $11 million contract it was announced today. That might be the biggest steal of a contract the Brewers have signed in recent years, including the hometown friendly deal with Ryan Braun that continues to look great as it ages. The contract is slightly risky in that Lucoy is young, doesn't have the best arm and his hitting stats aren't great - and...

Corey Hart has a meniscus tear in his right knee that will require surgery and will be out 3-4 weeks. That covers most of Spring Training and it would seem that he will start the season on the Disabled List.  This is the second straight season that Hart will miss most of Spring Training and likely start the season on the DL. Last season a rib cage sprain sidelined him. Though the recovery time fr...
