Tyler Thornburg was optioned back to AAA Nashville, purportedly to get him back in a starting pitcher role. He'd been relegated to the bullpen in Milwaukee, which was likely a waste of his talents, or at least a wasted opportunity to see what type of pitcher he can be at the major league level (especially with Greinke gone and an eye at what the 2013 starting rotation will be.) As the correspondin...

With the emergence of Martin Maldonado both at the plate and defensively, George Kottaras had become rather irrelevant for the Brewers. When Jonathan Lucroy returned from the DL, it was Kottaras who was the odd man out and was DFA'd. (A move we weren't sure would happen, since Maldonado has remaining options and could have been sent back to Nashville). Unfortunately for the ladies on Milwaukee, th...

We knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any less sad - the Brewers announced less than an hour before last night's game that they had traded Zack Greinke to the Los Angeles Angels for shortstop Jean Segura and AA pitchers John Hellweg and Ariel Pena. Segura had been in the majors with LA for just about a week covering for some injuries, but he will be headed back to AA with the Brewers. Wi...

Less than two weeks after shutting down Zack Greinke for a start because of over-use, Tyler Thornburg left tonight's game after being put in for a second inning in back to back games. Thornburg spent the early parts of the season as a starter and is claiming fatigue on the arm, saying he's not used to the bounce-back needed to be a relief pitcher. But the real question is, why did he get sent back...

Let me preface this by saying that I despised Ned Yost and thought Ken Macha was a clown, so it's going to take a lot for me to really dislike Ron Roenicke. He's just so superior to anything I've experienced in my short seven years as a Brewers fan that I probably give him way more leniency than I should. But by the inevitable end of tonight's game, I think I'm ready to admit that I'd like a chang...

For weeks we've been hearing about how the first nine games out of the All-Star Break were the most important of the Brewers season. While many fans were ready to give up on the Brewers more than a few weeks ago, there were those who felt that if the Brewers could come storming out of the ASB, where they had nine games against division opponents, they could be back in the race. It started out well...

The problem with an 8+ hour school day and an hour commute home means that I'm way, way late on this news and now there's way more speculation than there is news. Here's what I know: Zack Greinke has been scratched from his Wednesday start against the Cardinals and will be completely skipped in the rotation, not pitching again til the Phillies series in 11 days. Ron Roenicke and Doug Melvin are...

The numbers were hardly encouraging for the Brewers heading into the all-star break. At 40-45 they were fourth in the National League Central, eight games behind surprising Pittsburgh and seven behind Cincinnati. They were closer...

Mitch Haniger, the kid selected with the supplemental pick the Brewers got by losing Prince Fielder to free agency, will miss six weeks with a torn PCL. He was placed on the 15 day DL by the Single-A TimberRattlers last week with little news, but we now find out he tore a ligament in his right knee. The PCL is the outside ligament and often a PCL or MCL (the inside ligament) can lead to further kn...

Well the Brewers have finally made the move to put Shaum Marcum on the DL, but they're prefacing it with a "don't panic." Saying it's mostly to make room on the roster for Travis Ishikawa, who's himself returning from the DL, the Brewers moved Marcum, retroactive to June 15. Marcum has had Tommy John surgery on the elbow that is experiencing tightness and the Brewers are predictably quiet about th...
