By Russ Bickerstaff
The Missoula Childrens Theatre makes it to UW-Whitewaters Young Auditorium at the end of the month. It will be rolling into town about 50-60 actors short of a full production. Not to worrythis is always the case. The touring theatre companys production of Snow White features a huge cast culled from auditions in areas it performs in. On Saturday, February 26th, at 2pm, the Missoula Childrens...

SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKS Comedy Tour Heads for Whitewater At Month’s End

By Russ Bickerstaff
One of the issues tackled by Patrick Schmitz’ new play theatre-centric play Back And Forthis the question of whether or not women have a more difficult time in professional comedy. (A staged reading of the play some time ago featured a talented female comic on her way up from a second or third tier stage performance town.) It’s been said that a woman has to be twice as funny as a man to be e...

Options for a theatrical Halloween Weekend

By Russ Bickerstaff
The month of Halloween brings with it an interesting mix of opportunities. Here are four different opportunities for the weekend of the 31st:   On The 28th, the Oriental Theatre kicks-off Halloween Weekend with a production of Angry Young Men’s Night of the Living Dead Puppet Show. George A. Romero’s classic public domain 1968 horror film is brought to life via muppet-style arm and head pup...

Two more productions of the classic musical on the horizon.

By Russ Bickerstaff
It’s one of the few musicals I’ve ever really loved. The relatively dark musical tragedy Cabaret made quite an impression in its most recent local appearance—a very intimate production at the Cartye Blanche Studio Theatre that debuted only a little over a year ago.  A big stage feel with elaborate costuming, a big orchestra sound and all the trappings of a very extravagant musical were co...

The late 19th century drama has a remarkably fresh st...

Mark Lundholm Comes To UW-Whitewater

By Russ Bickerstaff
Judging from what’s available online, Mark Lundholm fits somewhere between genres as a spoken word performer. The man who has appeared on Showtime and Comedy Central carries himself somewhere between a traditional stand-up comic and a motivational speaker. There’s also a hint of something else—a genuine love of the language that seeps its way into his diction and word choice that fits more p...

The Racine Children’s Theatre Welcomes a Staging of A.A. Milne’s Classic

By Russ Bickerstaff
Each performance of the Radine Children’s Theatre is introduced by an elephant named Packy. (I believe that's an artist's rendering of the elephant in the logo aboe.) This Friday Packy welcomes Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit and company to the Racine Theatre Guild as The UW-Whitewater Theatre and Dance Dept. presents a children’s theatre production of Winnie The Pooh. After each show, characters from the...

UW-Whitewater presents Modern War Drama

By Russ Bickerstaff
Soldiers on the front lines of combat are much more in contact with the world beyond the battlefield now than they’ve probably ever been at any other point in history. The technology that brings them an their concerns to US civilians appears in deceptively high resolution. Any video screen, any scrap of mail or email still doesn’t illustrate the difficulties of life in war quite as vividly as...
