Matheny is just 41 and has no coaching experience - he was a minor-league instructor. However, the Cards interviewed 5 men for their head job and just one of them had major-league managing experience. Matheny received a two-year contract with a team option for a third year. That's not a lot of time for someone who's never managed before to establish himself or find a rhythm. Luckily fo...

This is probably only exciting for those of us that are already finding themselves hard up for baseball. The two biggest stories from the release are that the Brewers end Spring Training at Chase Field playing the Arizona Diamondbacks (whom they defeated in the NLDS) and that this may be the final Spring Training that the Brewers play in Maryvale, AZ. The Brewers' contract with Maryvale ex...

In a somewhat surprising move, the Brewers announced yesterday that they have asked their entire coaching staff to return for the 2012 season. That staff consists of hitting coach Dale Sveum, third-base coach Ed Sedar, bullpen coach Stan Kyles, bench coach Jerry Narron, pitching coach Rick Kranitz, first-base coach Garth Iorg and outfield coach/eye in the sky John Shelby.  When you think about ...

Corey Provus, who'd been the #2 Brewers radio guy at 620 WTMJ alongside Bob Uecker, has been hired to be the #1 radio broadcaster for the Twins. Provus came to Milwaukee three years ago after long-time "second guy" Jim Powell left Milwaukee for Atlanta. The Brewers organization has an interesting relationship with 620 WTMJ. Uecker (and TV guys Brian Anderson and Bill Schroeder) is a Brewers employ...

LF Ryan Braun and 1B Prince Fielder won Silver Slugger Awards from the MLB tonight. The awards, presented by Louisville Slugger, are awarded to the top hitters at each position in each league. It is the second Slugger of Fielder's career. He won it in 2007, but it's going to Albert Pujols each of the last three years. It is actually the fourth consecutive Silver Slugger for Braun. The last NL outf...

Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge supporter of the Brewers PR and Communications departments - I think they do amazing things. They have tapped into some great new markets and constantly come up with innovative ideas for the team to be more fan-friendly. I purchased a program during each the NLDS and NLCS series. The program for the NLDS was thinner and cost $8. The program for the NL...

Just in case you haven't heard it elsewhere, Sunday's game time is subject to change, based on the outcome of Saturday's ALCS game. As it stands, ALCS Game 7 is scheduled for Sunday night, meaning the Brewers are currently scheduled to play at 3 pm CST. However, if the Rangers win on Saturday, thereby winning the ALCS and eliminating the need for a Game 7, the Brewers will be bumped into t...

With the NLCS heading back to Milwaukee for Game 6 on Sunday, I think it's time to address this. Sure, Monday's 12-3 loss to the Cardinals in Game 2 of the NLCS was embarrassing. It was a blow out and it wasn't a fun game to watch. However, it was just the 2nd NLCS game held in Milwaukee in 29 years. And that right there means to me that it was inexcusable that Brewers fans exited Miller Park en m...

The Brewers won their NLDS series against the Diamondbacks last night and shortly thereafter found out they'd be facing the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS. On the plus side, the Brewers have home-field advantage. On the negative, they have to play the Cardinals. Tensions between these two teams have been high all season, culminating in the September game where Chris Carpenter screamed at Nyjer Mo...
