The Fairly Detached Observers

At first glance it was a bleak weekend for Wisconsin’s top football teams. The Badgers blew an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter and lost at Michigan State, 25-24. Then the Packers lost at Tennessee, falling to 4-4. But Green Bay battled the Titans, the NFL’s only undefeated team, to a stalemate. The coin flip for overtime...

Having learned nothing from jumping the gun on Ryan Grant, the Packers have extended Aaron Rodgers' contract for 6 years. Look - he's been pretty damn good so far, and I'm totally grateful for that. But he still hasn't proved he isn't the Packers equivalent of Ben Sheets "The Man of Glass." It's great that Rodgers has been playing through the pain - but still. It's been 7 games. I'd love to se...

Packers win, tied for first in division with Bears and VikingsAaron Rodgers is gritty:  "Aaron Rodgers turned his sprained shoulder into a lesson for any Packers who may still be missing his predecessor. The first-year starter is showing grit and leadership that would make Brett Favre proud."Badger men's hockey opened the season Friday just barely being edged out by defending national champions a...

The Saturday Brewers game was likely the most fun/best time I've ever had at a sporting event. Jim Powell said yesterday that after the game in the clubhouse, the Phillies Ryan Howard was overheard saying that after Dave Bush struck out the final 2 in the first inning, he's never heard a stadium louder. That's awesome. Also, we're the first NL Central postseason win since game 5 of th...

From Kevin Seifert's NFC North Blog on ESPN.comRodgers is comfortable enough with the Packers' playbook that he has been able to improvise a touchdown out of a busted alignment on at least one occasion, displaying the instincts and moxie that made Favre so successful.Early Sunday in Detroit, Rodgers walked to the line of scrimmage and noticed running back Brandon Jackson was lined up on the wrong ...

Aaron Rodgers is the man.And Mike Tirico is also the man for telling Kornheiser he was wrong and to stop talking about Favre last night. Kornheiser continued to insist he wasn't the one making it a story, that it's all anyone could talk about and therefore he was talking about it - but his broken record was ridiculous and the rest of us just really wanted to enjoy the game. Thank you Mike Tirico f...

The Fairly Detached Observers

It still felt like summer when the Observers met on their favorite park bench to chat. But the NFL and NCAA say it’s football time, so the Observers got to the main task of pundits: making predictions and hoping no one remembers them when they prove wrong. Frank: The Packers were 1-3 in the preseason, but this is what matters...
