Also: SXSW is dead

By Evan Rytlewski
On this week's music-themed episode of The Disclaimer, WMSE's near-weekly crosstalk between station promotions director Ryan Schleicher, A.V. Club Milwaukee editor Matt Wild and I, we discuss a recent OnMilwaukee.com opinion piece encouraging bands to resist playing free shows for "exposure." Do these non-paid gigs really devalue an artists' work, or are they just another part of the dues-paying p...

Feb. 16, 2013

The retro soul revival of the last few years, led in large part by the likes of Daptone Records, has produced its fair share of quality music, but even at its best it comes with some persistent philosophical questions that get in the

From MLB.com, there was a point in last night's game where the sun was especially brutal on Prince Fielder and he ran to the dugout asking for his sunglasses. Apparently they couldn't find them in the clubhouse and the Rockies fan started booing - so Fielder did what any player would do - he borrowed some from a fan.   Video embedded in the link below: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=2011...

There aren't words for what I think of Prince Fielder since he's stepped up in the past week or so. People have talked about his loss of power, his lack of leadership and a whole lot of other demeaning qualities, but I feel like this week's performance tells everyone that's disparaged him to sit down and shut up. While the rest of the team is slumping and seemingly ok with losing out on the playof...

Yesterday's picture of Prince Fielder rounding the bases (shown below) caused quite a furor over the apparent Brewers underwear Prince was wearing. I actually first noticed the blue sticking out of the pants in this picture. Check out Bill Hall.Well apparently the idea of Brewers underwear or compression shorts is just too good to be true and the story is all over the placeAnd then, of course, the...

From the Playoff Pulse column, some crazy numbers:• Prince Fielder is a career 1-for-18 against Paul Maholm, who will start for Pittsburgh against CC Sabathia on Wednesday night. But Milwaukee's right-handed hitters absolutely clobber Maholm: Mike Cameron is 10-for-15 with a 1.267 slugging percentage against Maholm, while Bill Hall sports a career average of .609 (14-for-23) against the Pirates'...

Once a regular feature of this blog, the Cheap Album Round-Up has all but disappeared in recent months as I, like much of the country, try to keep my spending habits in check. This weekend, however, I did treat myself to a couple of used albums, including: Al Green Al Green is Love (LP) Price: $5.99 From: Bullseye Records, 1627 E. Irving Pl. Paired with producer/songwriter ...

Prince Fielder hit a home run into McCovey Cove in San Francisco on Saturday. The game wasn't televised in Milwaukee at the time, so we were listening to the radio broadcast. Later, we went to MLB.com to watch the homer and it had the radio sound over the in stadium broadcast. As the ball cleared the stadium, Jim Powell said "Prince Fielder sends the sailboats scurrying."One problem, Jim couldn't ...
