Published in Bartleby Snopes

By Ken Brosky
I received word that one of my short stories will appear in Bartleby Snopes at the beginning of February and so I thought it might be nice to share something from that site. I've been reading their stories of the month for quite some time, but I read the entire January issue and, hard as it was, picked one that I thought deserved some extra time. Really, this was a tough decision. They're all qual...

Published in Fringe Magazine

By Ken Brosky
While my Internet was on the fritz, I tried to take myself back to an era pre-Facebook and found myself to be completely and utterly bored. Not necessarily because I had nothing to do (I just downloaded a new book on my Kindle), but it turns out a great deal of my time is spent researching stuff for short stories, reading fiction online and submitting stories to literary journals.  So I'm glad...

I can't believe I spelled "Missouri" right ...

By Ken Brosky
I just got my first issue of The Missouri Review (TMR for you hipsters) and I have to say so far I'm pretty impressed. Sure, I've only delved into one of the stories so far, but the presentation of the journal is pretty impressive. It's well-designed, taking liberal advantage of the artistic eyes on staff, making it easy for the mag to stand out among its competitors. It should, of course. The Missouri Review is one of the "it" mags, the one that published writers brag about. When you're published in The Missouri Review, this is how you react: "Holy crap!" <

From Subtropics

By Ken Brosky
Since the current Subtropics issue is only featuring poetry (but still worth checking out!), I had to dig to find something in the fiction department that I can share. This was another literary journal that I happened upon when I attended the AWP conference in Chicago last year, and the issue I bought was a great read. An excerpt from "Give Me That," by Molly Giles: It was not until she par...

With fiction by Ashley Kaine

By Ken Brosky
I've taken a break from damaging my brain with copious amounts of Dragon Age to check out the progress of Cream City Review's new Web site, and it's looking fantastic. Easy to browse, lots of features and teasers for the issues, and a built-in blog with updates and other features that take advantage of the internet (like video, for instance!). Cream City Review is published by the creative writ...

I didn't know much about ASF (American Short Fiction, duh) until a classmate got one of her short stories published on the mag's Web site (you can read it here). It turned out this was the same short story I'd given her some critique on, so naturally I took most of the credit in its getting published. My classmate disagreed, rightly so, since she was the one who wrote it. But I've been keep...
