This Week in Milwaukee

HEALTH @ The Borg Ward Collective, 7 p.m., Thursday. Partnered with the Canadian electronic duo Crystal Castles, HEALTH recorded one of last year’s sharpest singles, the disorient ing, Orwellian “Crimewave.” Left to their own devices, though, the Los Angeles group is more of a conventional noise-rock band than that dark dance track suggests, heavy on rusty guitars and cacopho nous drums.

Tune In: 88Nine Radio Milwaukee celebrated the one-year mark of its new format with a party at the Palms for supporters, friends and station celebs. Mayor Tom Barrett even stopped by to proclaim it 88Nine Radio Milwaukee Day.

Political Doings: Mayor Tom Barrett, one of Milwaukee’s top Obama Boys, tossed a hoped-for victory party the night of the New Hampshire primary at a packed Monica’s on Astor. Despite Barack Obama’s surprising defeat, the fun inside the cavernous, subterranean bar/eatery was not deterred.

ON THE TOWN

Musical Magic: Musician Joe Puerta hosted a rocking release party for his Christmas Dreams CD at Turner Hall, Milwaukee’s hot new musical venue. The crowd swung into the holiday groove with a rendition of “I’m Coming Home for Christmas” (heard on the television show “ER” and now a YouTube sensation).
