Tyler Thornburg was optioned back to AAA Nashville, purportedly to get him back in a starting pitcher role. He'd been relegated to the bullpen in Milwaukee, which was likely a waste of his talents, or at least a wasted opportunity to see what type of pitcher he can be at the major league level (especially with Greinke gone and an eye at what the 2013 starting rotation will be.) As the correspondin...

Three of the Brewers eight arbitration eligible players have recently signed one-year contracts. George Kottaras signed in mid-December. The terms of the contract have not become available. He will likely be the back-up catcher behind Jonathan Lucroy again this season. Kottaras, 28, batted .252 with five homers and six doubles in 49 games last season. He also hit for the cycle in 2011. Carlos Gome...

Prince Fielder has become the highest-ever paid Brewer. He signed a one-year, $15.5 million dollar contract to avoid his final year of arbitration with the club. The previously highest-paid Brewer was Zach Greinke, at $13.5 million. Prince's contract includes a $100,000 bonus if he's named MVP, as well as $75,000 for coming in second and $50,000 for coming in third in MVP voting. He receives $50...

A commenter over on BCB coined a new term and I'm digging it-brewtalbrewtal [BROO-tal (adj) – 1. savage; cruel; inhuman: Watching Jeff Suppan is brewtal.2. crude; coarse: Manny Parra’s pitching is brewtal.3. harsh; The weather is brewtal today. The Milwaukee pitching has been brewtal this year.4. taxing, demanding, or exhausting: They’re having a brewtal time throwing strikes.by jimf on Oct ...

So the whole situation Tuesday night (Aug. 4) was weird enough all on it’s own.But what if I told you that it happened exactly a year to the day after the Prince-Manny Parra dugout dustup. But it gets weirder, still. In 2007, then-manager Ned Yost and then-catcher Johnny Estrada got in a dugout scuffle. That one happened on August 3.Sure, having it be one day off ruins the flow a little – but s...

According to this Brewers.com article, Ken Macha has said that he hasn't even thought about sending Manny Parra down to triple-A Nashville to try and right the ship. And while I can appreciate Macha supporting Parra, isn't part of his job to have at least thought about that option? I mean, I understand considering it and dismissing it, but this.... I don't know, isn't it kind of the manager's jon t...

Manny Parra went back to the high socks and (as I knew they would) they brought the mojo to the whole team.Parra's gotten little to no run support this year. In fact, his run support has dropped 3.07 runs-per-game from last year to this season. The rain-delay information included a note that Mike Cameron jokingly told Parra on the bus yesterday that to get a win he just needed to pitch a shut...

Manny Parra has had a rough start to the season and many Brewers fans are left wondering where the promising young left-handers "stuff" has gone. Today, I discovered the answer. Here's Manny in July of 2008...And in June of 2008...And making a late-season appearance in 2007....And this was Manny on Tuesday.Any good uni-nerd would know that Manny's new-found preference for pajama-length, baggy-botto...

Ok, it's not that bad, but yesterday I was reading the mailbag over at MilwaukeeBrewers.com and McCalvy included this tidbit: By the way, Yost said Monday morning that he has several top-secret scenarios in mind for his starting rotation down the stretch. He could stay the course and simply bump all five starters back a day when the team is off, but even that won't work during the week of Aug....

While I do agree that fighting in the dugout is ridiculous and I do think that Prince needs to not go after a starting pitcher, I think people are severly overreacting to this situation in terms of blaming Prince for being hot-headed and having a temper. I've read lots of comments painting Manny as an innocent bystander and frankly, that's just ridiculous. Hell, the way some people are telling it,...
