Milwaukee’s largest all-volunteer street party, the Bay View Bash will return for another day of fun, shopping and gorging on South Kinnickinnick Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 13. This weekend the festival released its music and entertainment lineup for the event, and as usual it’s charmingly quirky, featuring some very loud music very early in the day at the Rush-Mor Records stage, a strong-man c...

It took a while, but Bay View's beer garden is coming

By Shepherd Express Staff
It took a bit longer than organizers hoped, but the Humboldt Park Beer Garden is now a done deal. Today the Milwaukee Common Council approved a liquor license request for the beer garden's operators, the St. Francis Brewery, clearing the way for it to open on Monday, June 30. County Supervisor Jason Haas, one of the beer garden's biggest cheerleaders, trumpeted the news in a press release this af...

Personally I’m going to miss one of the smallest stages in town. The Boulevard Theatre on South  Kinnickinnic Avenue was perilously small. Audience members would pass through the set on their way to the tiny restroom. Even at the back wall of the stage the actors were very, very close to the back row. It wasn’t just that the stage was small... it was the layout of the seating, which surro...

Wentworth Ave., on one of the neighborhood's quieter residential blocks, Goodkind arrives to high expectations thanks to the strong track record of its owners. The restaurant is a collaboration between Jessica and William Seidel, who own the neighboring Burnhearts b...

When the Milwaukee County Parks Department announced a proposal this January for the St. Francis beer garden to operate a beer garden in Humboldt Park, the hope was to launch the beer garden in May. One week into the month, however, that timeline now looks unlikely, and the Bay View beer garden still isn't a done deal. Susie Devcich, chief of recreation and business development at the parks depar...

A Central Waters Tap Takeover

By Joseph Nicol
During the ides of Milwaukee Beer Week, Burnhearts Bar in Bay View swapped all their taps with nothing but barley pops from Central Waters Brewing Company Wednesday night.  If you’re familiar with this marketing tactic you’d know that tap takeovers aren’t uncommon in Milwaukee, but this one had a lot going for it. It was the handful of experimental and specialty beers on tap that compe...
