Today, the opponents of Wisconsin’s voter ID law sent an emergency plea to Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, the high court judge who oversees the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. The ID opponents want the Supreme Court to vacate the three-judge’s decision to allow voter ID to be implemented before the Nov. 4 election. Is this a long-shot bid? It isn’t the most common request, but it...

It’s a shame that the judges on the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals deadlocked on whether they should review a ruling by three of its members on Wisconsin’s voter ID law.  They voted 5-5 on the matter. Which means that the law is in effect. This really is a shame. Wisconsin is unprepared for voter ID and with just a precious few weeks before the Nov. 4 election, this decision now has...

A bigger deal is that the election is only weeks away.  “The decision has thrown everything into chaos,” Kristin Hansen of the ACLU told me. She said that she was concerned that elections workers would take the opportunity to overly scrut...

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals did the right thing and decided that Wisconsin’s same-sex marriage ban was unconstitutional.  It was originally struck down by U.S. Circuit Judge Barbara Crabb in June. Then state Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen and Gov. Scott Walker decided to appeal that decision. The three-panel court found that both Wisconsin’s and Indiana’s bans were unconst...
