Racine Theatre Guild Auditions
The Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Avenue in Racine, announces open auditions on September 8 and 9 for a hilarious spoof of 1930s horror movies. âThe Werewolfâs Curse or Hair Today, Gone Tomorrowâ opens on Halloween night and runs two weekends, through November 9.
Written by Billy St. John, the play follows Harry Pate, an American student at the University of Lipsync in Rumania, as he and his vegetarian fiancĂ©e seek a cure for his wolfman tendencies, which include craving rare roast beef and sprouting hair whenever thereâs a full moon. At Dr. Frank Einsteinâs castle, Harry consults with Madam Clara Voyant, a gypsy fortune teller whoâs one of the attractions of Professor Wonderâs two-bit carnival troupe. The other characters are a bearded lady; a tattooed lady with one tattoo; a puny muscleman; a sword swallower with a chronic sore throat; Siamese twins joined at the fingertip; a 4000-year-old mummy; a 200-year-old, juice-drinking vampire; and seven villagers, all played by one quick-changing actor.
To audition, come to the Racine Theatre Guild at 7 p.m. on either Monday, September 8, or Tuesday, September 9. (Please note: the dates were pushed back from late August.) Appointments are not being taken. The many fun roles can be played by adults from age 18 to 70s, with or without experience. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Scripts are available to check out in advance from the box office.
