Scrutiny After The Glimpse

13th & Clybourn, Milwaukee, WI, 53233
414-288-1669

Depicting the human form has been a primary focus of artists since the beginning of recorded history. The Haggerty Museum of Art’s summer exhibition, Scrutiny After The Glimpse, mines the museum’s extensive permanent collection to explore how this art form has changed through the years, and how the works’ meanings vary when art from different eras and styles is juxtaposed.

Scrutiny After The Glimpse opens June 4 and runs through August 3 at the Haggerty on Marquette University’s campus.

The exhibition will occupy the entire first level of the museum and includes paintings, drawings, prints, photography and sculpture, all from the Haggerty’s permanent collection. It was inspired in part by the museum’s 30th anniversary, which occurs this fall, noted Wally Mason, director and chief curator of the Haggerty Museum of Art. That prompted Mason and associate curator Emilia Layden to consider the different traditions reflected in the more than 4,500 items collected by the Haggerty during the past 30 years and what threads could be traced throughout the collection.

A Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission panel upheld the firing of former Milwaukee Police officer Christopher Manney for violating department rules last April when he encountered Dontre Hamilton before fatally shooting him. Do you agree with the commission’s decision?
