ACME, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble performs on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 7:30pm, presented by The South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center (901 15th Avenue). The concert, Songs Still Sung, pays homage to the late, largely unsung Polish composer Mieczysław Weinberg with an elegiac chamber music program that includes his exquisite Piano Quintet Op. 18, paired with Olivier Messiaen's masterpiece Quartet for the End of Time. ACME musicians for this concert are Caroline Shaw and Ben Russell, violins; Nadia Sirota, viola; Clarice Jensen, cello and artistic director; Hideaki Aomori, clarinet; and Timo Andres, piano. In addition to the Thursday night concert, on Wednesday ACME will give a master class for high school string players and will lead a discussion with social studies classes about the social relevance of the music featured on this program, at SMPAC.
