Annual Wearable Arts Show
Annual Wearable Arts Show begins First Friday Night, Dec. 7
No, the Artists Gallery in downtown Racine is not suggesting they outfit you with an oil painting as a coat or a Grecian urn as a hat. The Wearable Arts Show, opening this Friday, offers handmade items crafted by area artists. Hats, scarves, gloves, sweaters, purses are all for sale at the gallery from December 7 through January 26.
All the items are handmade works crafted by members of the gallery and guest artists brought in just for this show. Each piece is unique and represents a well-crafted work of art.
Member artists include Marie Abbot (jewelry and scarves), Bonnielynn Brankey (silk scarves), Mary Anne Bunkers (scarves and clothing), Toby Iwon-Prioletta (fine jewelry), Judy Kabriel (jewelry and scarves), Paula Kalke (reconstructed jackets).
Guest artists represented in the show are Joy Boatwright (hand-woven clothing), Pam Bronk (leather purses), Janet Falk (wet felting), Georgia Kroll (woven boas and scarves), Melissa Kirkeby (jewelry), Judy Loebbaka (crocheted capes and hats), Marjorie Meyer (clothing, bags and hats), and Susan Waldron (felted silk clothing).
The show debuts with a reception at the gallery on December 7, First Friday Night. Downtown Racine businesses celebrate First Friday by staying open late holding receptions and entertainment that is free to the public. The Racine Arts Museum is free to the public that day. Artists Gallery stays open until 9pm.
