15th Annual Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival
Milwaukee Downtown, Business Improvement District #21 is setting the stage for the 15th Annual Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival, November 21 â December 29. On opening night, Thursday, Nov. 21, the six--âweek festival will host a switch--flipping ceremony in Pere Marquette Park, 900 N. Plankinton Ave. Attracting over 5,000 guests annually, the celebration features music, dancing, Santa and a much--anticipated fireworks show.
The cast of this yearâs Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival Kick--âOff Extravaganza will include Spider George & The Web; Ice Beat Factory, an ice--âsculpting performance group; Studio VIA; The Tempters; Danceworks; First Stage, performing a scene from âThe Best Xmas Pageant Everâ; and the showâs guest of honor, Santa Claus. Entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. At approximately 6:30 p.m., invited guests Governor Scott Walker, Mayor Tom Barrett, County Executive Chris Abele and Milwaukee alderman will lead the crowd in a countdown. Fireworks synchronized to holiday songs will top off the program and free Jingle Bus rides will operate from Pere Marquette Park, taking guests past all of downtownâs newly lit decorations.
Not--to--miss scenes will include the chandeliers suspended above Wisconsin Ave., as well as the dĂŠcor in Pere Marquette Park, Cathedral Square Park and Zeidler Union Square. The themes for each park are âElectric Elvesâ at Pere Marquette Park, âCommunity Spirit Parkâ at Cathedral Square Park and âMusical Bearsâ at Zeidler Union Square. Milwaukee Downtown, Business Improvement District #21 is the organization responsible for the procurement, installment and maintenance of these decorations. They also coordinate the November 21st kick--off ceremony in Pere Marquette Park.
After opening night, Jingle Bus rides will operate from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays, November 22 â December 29. The 40--minute tour is narrated by Milwaukee Downtownâs Public Service Ambassadors. Rides are $1 per person and depart from The Shops of Grand Avenue â Center Court.
