Auditions for Racine Theatre Guild
Auditions are being held at the Racine Theatre Guild on August 5 and 6 for “Deathtrap,” by Ira Levin, a thriller chock full of chills, humor and suspense. Performances of “Deathtrap” are appropriately scheduled around Halloween, October 25 to November 10, at the RTG, 2519 Northwestern Avenue (Highway 38) in Racine.
The play revolves around Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway mysteries who’s struggling to overcome a dry spell. Then he receives a script from a college student, Clifford Anderson, that will undoubtedly become a hit. Sidney’s plan, with his wife’s assistance, is to do away with Clifford and steal the script. Or is it? The devilishly clever plot twists and turns, right up to the final startling moments.
There are roles for three men and two women. The actor playing Sidney should be age 40 to 60. The role of Clifford calls for an attractive young man in his 20’s to mid-30’s. A third male, playing Porter Milgram, lawyer and friend to Sidney, should be 50 to 60’s. The women in the play are Myra, Sidney’s self-effacing wife, age 40 to late 50’s; and a psychic, Helga, described as a stocky Teutonic woman, age 50 to 60’s. All roles are open.
Anyone interested in auditioning should simply show up on either Monday, August 5, or Tuesday, August 6, 7 p.m., at the Racine Theatre Guild, a nonprofit community (amateur) theatre, 2519 Northwestern Avenue. Appointments are not being taken. Auditions consist of cold readings from the script. Scripts are available in advance and may be checked out of the box office with payment of a refundable deposit. In addition to actors, production crew volunteers are needed.
