Edgar Wright’s brisk 2004 comedy Shaun of the Dead wasn’t the first film to blend zombie-flick tropes with rapid humor, but it was easily the funniest, paving the way for successors like Zombieland and Warm Bodies. In a breakout role, Simon Pegg stars as the directionless and recently dumped Shaun, whose attempts to put his life together are complicated by a bloody zombie apocalypse that it takes him far, far too long to notice. It’s a great comedy, but it’s also a great zombie movie in its own right, lovingly riffing on the conventions of George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead films. The Turner Hall Ballroom invites viewers to come early to “have a nice cold pint and wait for all of this to blow over” before the screening with a happy hour beginning at 6:30
