Testament w/ Overkill, Flotsam and Jetsam, and 4Arm
6:45 p.m.
Like most genres, metal moves in cycles, with sounds that once seemed passé eventually reclaiming their relevance. That cycle has provided vindication for Testament, whose brand of grave-robbing ’80s thrash metal had fallen out of favor by the turn of the century—blame nu-metal for that—but now seems as fresh and fashionable as it was the first time around. That may be part of the reason the band sounds so revitalized on their tenth and latest album, 2012’s Dark Roots of Earth, which was recorded with almost the entirety of the band’s original, classic lineup (a rarity for metal bands of Testament’s vintage).
