A. R. Gurney’s “Love Letters”
Two performances of A. R. Gurney’s “Love Letters” are being presented February 15 and 17, especially for the Valentine holiday, at the Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Avenue (Highway 38) in Racine.
A unique and imaginative theatre piece, “Love Letters” is comprised of correspondence exchanged over a lifetime between two people, Andrew and Melissa, who grew up together and then went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences for nearly 50 years. Through notes, letters and cards, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats. What is created as the actors read the letters aloud, is a touching, frequently funny and always telling pair of character studies, in which what is implied is every bit as revealing and meaningful as what is written.
Performances of “Love Letters” take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 15, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 17. Tickets for Friday night are $17 for adults and $15 for seniors and students. Tickets for the Sunday matinee are $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students.
