The Used w/ We Came as Romans, Crown The Empire and Mindflow
8 p.m.
Setting out in 2002 from the gallows of poverty and substance abuse, screamy emo band The Used has now amassed a library of five albums, several EPs and a live album all dedicated to suffering. The group’s 2009 record Artwork was its most brutal yet. The cover vividly depicted an oversized metal syringe marked “ART” being injected into an arm with the word “WORK” carved into it. Its opening track, “Blood on My Hands,” works itself into an arena-rock chant about the band’s obligation to suffer for their craft. The group’s latest record, 2012’s Vulnerable, dialed back some of that intensity in favor of slicker hooks. The Used share this Take Action Tour stop with the Detroit metalcore sextet We Came as Romans, who set themselves apart from their similarly loud peers with sophisticated, symphonic arrangements that prominently showcase piano and cello.
