The Producers
8 p.m.
Though they were never the most popular early-’80s new wave band—or even the most popular early-’80s new wave band from Atlanta—The Producers occupy a special place in the hearts of genre completists. Originally formed as a Beatles cover band named Cartoon, the group went on to develop a distinct power-pop sound under the direction of Cheap Trick producer Tom Werman, who signed the group to Portrait Records. They released a couple of fine albums for the label, including a snappy self-titled 1981 debut and a likeminded 1982 follow-up, You Make The Heat, which yielded the modest MTV hit “She Sheila.” With no illusions of reclaiming the spotlight, the group still play shows together from time to time.
