From catching an awesome club, theater or co-op concert to hanging out with other locals in your favorite neighborhood haunt of choice, Milwaukee's options for fun are increasingly abundant as the sun goes down. While no neighborhood is completely genre-specific, the residents of each do take pride in their own unique flavor.
Milwaukee has always been known for impressive bar-per-capita numbers. This is perhaps most evident in the student- and campus oriented East Side, with the Jazz Estate and Vox being the quieter and relaxed alternative to the louder and rowdier BBC and Cans. Not far from the North Avenue din are Riverwest's charming River Horse and Foundation, along with Brady Street's crowded Nomad and Hi Hat. Comet Caf is perhaps the best alternative to the norm and one of the East Side's truest gems.
Milwaukee's Downtown nightlife isn't limited to the notorious binge drinking on Water Street. The Bad Genie Rock Lounge offers original live music in a classic rock 'n' roll environment. Those scouting for chicks who "just want to dance" should look no further than the Walker's Point club Envy, where every night is ladies' night and the house rules declare jeans to be worn "at waist level."
Bay View, Milwaukee's South Side capital, continues to expand and offers some excellent barhopping. The intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Kinnickinnic alone brings many high-quality options, including Caf LuLu and Sugar Maple. Burnhearts and Frank's Power Plant are further down the street, and always bustling with regulars.
With the Pabst Theater/Turner Hall Ballroom/Riverside Theater conglomerate in full force, Milwaukee has been spoiled with concerts from exceptional touring bands and artists who may have otherwise driven right through. The Borg Ward, the city's most popular art-collective venue, also regularly showcases innovative local, national and even international performers. Filling in the club gap are the beloved Cactus Club, Mad Planet, Stonefly Brewery and Shank Hall-each Milwaukee institutions in their own right.
