In a dire commercial country music landscape where ’80s arena-rock and hairspray seemingly bears more influence as the genre’s folk and rural roots, Miranda Lambert provides some hope of artistic redemption. Oh, she rocks when she has a mind to do so, but not at the expense of the traditional musical values of forebears including Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn and Patty Loveless.

As with Lynn in some of her more controversial moments, Lambert is also unafraid to reflect a modern, aggressive femininity. She may take a “White Liar” to task and sentimentally reflect on “The House That Built Me,” but neither does she have any compunction about calling herself “The Fastest Girl in Town” and threatening revenge on cheating beaus in several of her big radio hits. If Lambert can bring to the State Fair even half the excitement of her last show at the Bradley Center, it will be one of the year’s better country shows. Openers The Farm (not to be confused with the early ’90s Madchester dance-rock band of same name) distinguish themselves as being a co-ed, multi-cultural trio maintaining an aesthetic balance similar to Lambert’s, albeit from a more mainstream, Nashville-typical blueprint.
