Human Hubris Undone
‘Steve Rowell: Uncanny Sensing’ at Inova
Using camouflaged sensors, remote audio monitors and autonomous camera systems (terrestrial and aqueous), Rowell offers us largely unmediated footage that confronts these hubristic ideas. By giving us glimpses into processes ranging from animal behavior to erosion to the workings of machines, the artist challenges us to look and listen to the world in a new and selfless way.
“Steve Rowell: Uncanny Sensing” will be displayed June 21-Sept. 15 at Inova Gallery, 2155 N. Prospect Ave.
