“The Daily Show” is a very different program today than it was in 1996, when it was a fairly apolitical comedy show hosted by a smug, well-coifed Craig Kilborn, but one feature has remained a constant throughout its long run: Lewis Black’s periodic “Back in Black” segments, where “America’s foremost commentator on everything” rages against any topic that crosses his mind, daring his heart to give out at any moment. Though he’ll always be best known for that prime “Daily Show” gig, these days Black is his own brand, having released stacks of DVDs, CDs and books, all of which tap that same bottomless well of over-the-top anger and indignation. Black also regularly surfaces in supporting film roles and on television, but his real calling is live stand-up, which he performs more than 200 nights out of the year. So expect a polished set—and a lot of yelling—when he returns to Summerfest for this BMO Harris Pavilion performance. (Evan Rytlewski)
