The Real Paul Ryan
The public rejects the Republicans' attack on abortion
Also lost in the uproar is the fact that the public overwhelmingly rejects the Republicans' hard-line stance on abortion.
According to a new Public Policy Polling (PPP) report, 75% of those polled would oppose a constitutional amendment banning all abortions, with no exemptions. Only 13% of those questioned support such a ban.
And while banning all abortions, without exemptions for rape or incest, has been codified in the Republican Party's national platform, PPP found that a mere 20% of Republicans polled support that position, with 62% opposing it. Only 25% of self-identified conservative voters support the ban, with 55% opposing it, PPP found.
Those numbers mirror a new CNN poll, which found that 88% of those questioned believe that abortion should be legal when a woman's life is endangered; 83% support abortion when a woman's health is endangered; and 83% support allowing a woman to choose an abortion if she is pregnant as a result of rape or incest.
"Paul Ryan is very far-right on these issues," said Tanya Atkinson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin. "He's out of touch with what women need and what the mainstream believes is appropriate."
Ryan: Rape Is 'Another Method of Conception'
Paul Ryan has a long history in Congress of opposing legal abortions:
Early in his career, Ryan took to the floor of the House of Representatives to denounce long-respected exemptions for abortions to save the health of a pregnant woman.
Ryan and Akin co-sponsored a "personhood" bill, which would grant legal rights to fertilized eggs and therefore ban all abortions and jeopardize in-vitro fertilization, some contraception methods and embryonic stem cell research.
Just last year, Ryan supported a bill that would allow physicians and other health professionals to refuse to treat a woman who requires an abortion to save her life.
Ryan—along with Akin—also introduced the term "forcible rape" into the legislative record when he sought to ban taxpayer funding for abortions—as if there is such a thing as "non-forcible rape."
Ryan has told the press that he's proud of his pro-life record. But, not surprisingly, Ryan has been trying to distance himself from his radical stance on a woman's constitutional right to control her own fertility. Ryan, echoing President Obama, has now said that "rape is rape."
Yet Ryan has also said that rape is just another "method of conception."
Jeopardizing Health Protections for Women
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin's Atkinson noted that in addition to sponsoring bills that would outlaw all abortions, Ryan's call to repeal the Affordable Care Act would also repeal its female-friendly provisions. The new federal law bans insurance companies from charging women higher premiums just because they are women; ends the long-standing insurance practice of denying women coverage because of "pre-existing conditions" such as an abnormal pap test, a past pregnancy or a Caesarian section; and eliminates co-pays for cancer screenings, well-woman exams and birth control.
Ryan's budget also dismantles Medicaid programs, jeopardizing Wisconsin's effective family planning program, which serves almost 70,000 low-income patients annually.
"To say that the Romney-Ryan ticket is not good for women is an understatement," Atkinson said. "Their presidency could be devastating for women."

It would be nice if GOP supporters could actually spell. C'mon man!
It would be nice if Demoncrats would saty on point instead of immediately going for the personal!
Sorry Hosey
But the sytem has apparently led to some confusion. p dougie attacked you. I went after them for strying from the discussion at hand.
Big typo, Hosey!
Ryan said "Rape is another from of CONception", the total opposite of CONTRAception. Akin said "true" [forcible] would not cause pregnancy.
Today at a family dinner we talked about what Ryan said about rape and incest being just another form of conception. Its was like we all says "well heck yeah," we call agree with Ryan. Then one of our family mentioned that Big Mouth Moore said its better to slaughter an unborn child rather than feed them ramon noodles. We just shook our heads in disbelief. That an elected official would even dare to suggest something like this.
Rape is what an invading army would do. Planting their seed among the local culture, thereby forcing the losers to carry on their genes and eventually becoming "loyal converts". The babies born of rape would not be true welcome members of the local culture, and their mothers would be down-graded with them. It would serve to destroy any proud cultural identity.
Oh, that's what the Conservative crowd wants to do to the liberals anyway, literally "screw" them and leave them no choice but to agree to a lifetime of servitude with no chance of rising up in status, no protest allowed. And if they choose to slit their own throats to avoid this, problem solved anyway.
Like a Muslim "missionary", if you cannot get a willing conversion, then destroy them so their ideals cannot continue.
I've screwed a lot of liberals and its one area we seem to be able to equalize our differences.
I disagree with raping capture women of our enemies. Their children will dilute our blood and heratige. When you look at the children, while you will love and ador them, they will be a reminder of a mistake and disobedience. There is nothing wrong with putting caputred enemies to work in a lifetime of serivitude. Take the best and brightest, put them in important positions. Read the story of Joseph, or Moses.
Oh, so you prefer genocide of your enemies, and therefore keeping purity of your own kind to fill the void left behind after eliminating the former occupants?
"Good People" tried this with the Old Testament with all the conquering done by Moses' clan after he led them out of bondage, followed by "be fruitful and multiply" to fill the land after wiping out its "other" inhabitants. (Israel still tries this)
It took Jesus to come in and say "enough", provide them with a New Testament. Get willing converts by leading a good example, not by genocide nor unwilling converts by conquest.
Even God can't get his story straight, how can Conservative Republicans, or even Liberal Democrats?
Waukeshaguy;
You are a fool! As is anonymous you are responding to.
Wow so you would murder your grandchild. Hmmm. And the father of the baby, while probably not the most upstanding person, he has parents too that don't want to see their grandchild slaughtered because of your own personal selfish feelings. So you would deny other grandparent's feeling too? Most likely your early teen daughter would survive. But for sure you'd kill a baby, wow. And you would put one life, your daughter's, ahead of an innocent baby, the father's, the father's parents, and perhaps other members of the family, just because you can't deal with it. Yep, its all about you. Spit in God's face. Explain to God how he made a mistake and now you are going to play God, because you are smarter than him. After all we would not want your daughter's sexy girlish figure ruined by having a baby would we. So lets murder a baby, yep thats sounds like a good idea.
