Pho Viet Focuses on Vietnamese Soup
Short Orders
The area of 27th Street south
of Oklahoma Avenue
continues to draw Asian businesses. In addition to Chinese and Indian markets,
soon there will be no fewer than three establishments devoted to Vietnamese
pho—a noodle soup served in large bowls. The most recent to open is Pho Viet (5475 S. 27th St.).
It is the first phase of an ambitious new development that will also include an
all-you-can-eat seafood buffet and a supermarket. Most of the phos here are
made with beef. Cuts include rare and well-done steak, brisket, tendon and
tripe. Add fresh bean sprouts, basil and jalapeno slices, then perhaps a splash
of sriracha sauce and definitely some fresh-squeezed lime juice. There are
other items, like a green papaya salad and Vietnamese egg rolls, but the focus
is definitely on pho.

There are 0 pho restaurants within walking distance of 27th & Oklahoma. There is one near Miller Park on Miller Park Way, Pho 43, two blocks north of Lincoln, more than 2 miles away. There is Pho Hai Binh on 27th & Howard, the closest, about 3/4 of a mile south. Pho Viet is on 27th & Grange in Greenfield. Soon Pho 27 will open just south of Layton Ave. a mile and one half south of Oklahoma. There is a Laotian market across from Leon's, perhaps the reviewer confused that with a Chinese market, none of which are on the south side. The Indian market, Indian Bazaar is at 5254 S. 27th, just south of Edgerton which I believe is also Greenfield. Jeff is correct in that all save Pho 43 are south of Oklahoma.
You can't walk 3/4 of a mile?
