Taylor was elected to the state Senate in 2004, after serving a partial term in the state Assembly. She is currently the chair of the Committee on Judiciary and Corrections and the co-chair of the Joint Review Committee on Criminal Penalties; she is also a member of the Joint Committee on Finance and the Senate Committee on Finance. Born in Milwaukee, Senator Taylor graduated from Rufus King High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1990 and her law degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1993. She worked in the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office, and currently runs her own private practice. Taylor is a member of the Milwaukee Boy Scouts advisory board, the Girl Scouts of Milwaukee Area, the NAACP and Urban League of Milwaukee, and the Unity Caucus. Taylor is the mother of one child.

People are much more efficient workers when they are shown respect in the workplace from their bosses. Part of respecting one's employees is empathizing with them if they or their children are sick. An example, France recently went from the 40hr workweek to the 35. Total sum production shot up the week after the national shift. People work better and produce more when they are not overworked. Period. To think that employers would be forced to cut a workforce for having to pay for a few sick days (8 days a year for a full time worker) is ridiculous conservative propaganda. This is the same as those people convincing you that the poor and minorities are the reason for our current economic problems. Stop the inhuman greed and return civility to the Milwaukee Workplace. Vote YES.

actually, that's not true, and there is no evidence to support such a claim. in fact, research shows that employers will save money because they will have a more stable workforce. Right now workers who can't earn paid sick time are fired when they have to leave work to take care of a sick child, or take a sick day for themselves. That is insanity in my book.

In the 90s I worked in an office with "sick" days....

In the 90s I worked in an office with "sick" days. As a person with ethics, this system was not a benefit to me, but did serve others that used the sick days as addtional vacation days (call in with "illness"). Systems that promote unethical behavior are bad systems. The best (and most equitable) system in my experience in the workplace is Paid Time Off (PTO) days. This allows people to take days as they choose. This does not discrimate against people that do not get sick / choose to raise children without the appropriate means to support them.
