Café Calatrava’s Spectacular Setting
Aug. 11, 2010
If you are looking for a table with the best view in Milwaukee, a strong contender would be the seating at Café Calatrava, located in the Milwaukee Art Museum. The café, situated just under the main entry hall, offers sleek, slanting windows overlooking the spectacular setting of Lake Michigan. The wooden tables and chairs are a bit minimalist, but who cares. The menu is as contemporary as the décor—a mix of Latino, Asian, European and American touches. This is a great place for an appetizer and a glass of wine. Try avocado fries that come with a panko crumb crust, a tomato and roasted pepper vinaigrette. The prosciutto crab melt includes lump crab meat over a thin slice of tomato and topped with prosciutto—an updated crab cake. Museum admission is not required to visit the café, which is only open for lunches and a Sunday brunch (closed Mondays). Café Calatrava is a perfect excuse to dine amid great architecture and stunning views.
